“This was an unexpected visit to this excellent restaurant and boutique winery. We had planned on going there earlier in the year but due to COVID, those plans had to be postponed until now.
We are very fortunate in Australia to have some very good restaurants in regional locations across the country and this is certainly one of the best we have been to.
The setting is very peaceful and relaxing. Sitting outside, the air is so clean and fresh and the overall atmosphere is like being at someone’s back yard having a great time.
The food was fantastic. The dishes we ordered were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The serves are quite large, and whilst not fine dining, it comes reasonably close to it.
The staff are great and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are engaging, attentive, friendly and make you feel very welcome and it is quite obvious they enjoy their roles within the restaurant.
Then there is Lilly. She oversees the functions of the restaurant and is a superstar. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for us which made the experience eve more so memorable. She is far more mature than her young age and it is quite obvious she was born for her role. It was an absolute delight to have met her.
One of the great things about the restaurant was being able to taste the wines before our meals and then choosing what we wanted to have with our dishes. The wines are brilliant and the ones we chose were an excellent match for the food we had.
We look forward to going there again and have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to anyone who loves good food, brilliant wines and excellent service, all done with huge smiles.

“Cottontails is our preferred local restaurant to meet or celebrate.
The environment is excellent set among the gently hills above the Murrumbidgee River that is a few kilometers away. The scene changes with the seasons; greens as the sun lazes elsewhere in this world and all-consuming browns and oranges in the harsh lights of summer. Cottontails is constructed to combat all seasons and they use a superb cooling system. It is set on the brow of a hill outside Wagga, an easy drive from the city. There is plenty of parking that is at the end of the kilometre plus road in ... the road has lines of olive tree all the way. We have watched them grow for many years. They seem to be well placed as do the grape vines nearby.
The staff is inevitably welcoming and attentive. The menu is expansive and well presented and explained.
Never have we left unsatisfied; hence we return. The twenty minute drive is well worth it as is the opportunity to admire the vista. Cottontails can easily cater for functions and they are able to provide other facilities as well.”

“Took my mum here on a Thursday for an early mother’s day. Stunning drive from Wagga to get there. Lovely dining room and beautiful views. Best food I have ever had out! “Right from the minute we walked in, we felt welcome. We had a table right beside the window that overlooked the rolling hills and canola fields of beautiful Harefield. Decor was minimalist, which was good so as to not distract from the views. Menu offers choice without being overbearing. Wine List is also comprehensive, with a strong representation of wines from the Cottontail Vineyard. We didn’t need to wait long for our meals, they arrived hot to the table - we were hesitant to start eating as they were so beautifully presented. We have already talked about returning again to try other things from the menu - can’t wait to go back! Perfect for quiet lunches, though to intimate wedding/events.”

“Lovely setting overlooking the valleys leading back to Wagga Wagga. It will have taken about 15 - 20 minutes to get here from the centre of town and worth every minute. We enjoyed dinner on a Saturday night. The menu was not long but covered most tastes, the servings were generous, the service friendly. And the Cottontails Cabernet Sauvignon was delicious. recommended highly.”

We started with drinks and platters on the grassed area watching the sunset. We then moved up onto the main deck to enjoy a 2 course meal and wow was it good, the rack of lamb was deliciously moist. If you want friendly staff who cannot do enough for you to make the night memorable, very, very good value for money, food served with quality wine at the right prices, you cannot beat Cottontails Winery. “The first time I visited Cottontails Winery was in 2010. Since then, it has come so far in a multitude of ways! “Thank you to the excellent staff and chef Jude at Cottontails for a perfect lunch we enjoyed on our 52nd wedding anniversary. Wagga has improved and grown into a city with style. Our Wagga Wagga wedding cost a total of $80. Our wedding “feast” consisted of two chooks roasted in a frypan cooked and served up by me with a big apron over my home made wedding dress, (A copy of the Jean Shrimpton white shift that so outraged Melbourne Society). Cottontails managed something a little more salubrious, but what we loved were the simple things - still, always. Cottontails’ own olives not messed with and so perfect in flavour we took a kg back to Queensland. Our mains a hearty rack of lamb gently flavoured with garlic and rosemary. For some reason, possibly brain fade, we could not remember any beautiful sweeping views around Wagga but Cottontails has jagged that one from their hilltop position. We got a corrugated iron lean-to in the slums and a view of the backyard dunny and dog kennels. Life just keeps on getting better and better. As the old folks said: It goes to show you never can tell!”

“We arrived here just as the sun was setting, so we could still see the beautiful view of the surrounds. Much of the menu is locally sourced produce. We had the local steak - Angus Scotch Fillet from Teys Cargill and the lamb rack from Junee. Both were divine - probably some of best we’ve ever had. It was lovely to pair the meal with a local wine, made right there! Lilly, the Maitre d’, was very friendly.”
